Field Engineer
Job Summary
The Field Engineer works with project managers, senior broadband engineers and onsite technicians to achieve excellence in voice, video and data installations.
Major Responsibilities/Activities
- Provides onsite engineering support to installations / projects that are assigned, ensuring a high degree of commitment to a successful outcome.
- Maintains a customer-first attitude and takes extra steps to ensure customer needs are met. Takes steps to mediate issues when they are discovered thereby mitigating or resulting in minimal disruption to customers operations.
- Lends guidance and support in proper rack/stack/powering of equipment.
- Performs proper commissioning and configuration of equipment.
- Performs design verification/validation of headends and outside plant (fiber and coax)
- Performs QC inspections of partially or fully completed installations.
- Performs/provides documentation of installations and/or QC inspections.
- Performs Tier 1 and 2 level technical support on/off site.
- Works well within a team environment.
- May perform duties of Tech I – III as required
Minimum Requirements
- High School graduate, military training, BSEE, Associate degree or certificate of training
- 3-5 years of experience in advanced broadband installations / operations.
- Knowledge and experience with Digital Video Platforms, including VOD and Ad Insertion technologies.
- CCNA or higher is a plus
- Proficiency in IP transport and Cisco ONS platforms is a plus
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
- Must be extremely customer focused and must maintain a professional demeanor.
- Must be willing and capable to travel for extended periods of time.
- Must have credit cards in good standing in order to use for travel needs.
- Must be able to work irregular hours / days, including weekends and official holidays.
- Must be capable of use of hand tools such as cable strippers, soldering irons, cable connector crimpers, and other common items.
- Knowledge of how to use a multimeter, wire map, CAT 3/5/5e/6 test equipment, TDR, OTDR, GigE analyzer, spectrum analyzer, audio test equipment, video waveform & vector scopes and MPEG analyzer.
- Must be capable of working in confined areas and access areas on hands and knees for occasional and sometime extended periods of time in order to complete an installation.
- Must be able to carry various tools and equipment often during the work day weighting up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to pass a drug test, including random testing.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
- Must obey all traffic laws.
- Willingness to attain industry and vendor certifications as required by Weintraub Telecomm, LLC
