Job Summary
The Wireman works with technicians to achieve excellence in voice, video and data cabling installation. The Wireman is responsible for the neat and efficient installation of data/ voice cabling (CAT 3-6), RF cabling required for video and video distribution and fiber optic cabling. Some testing of cabling for compliance with industry standards, and works with the direction of the technical supervisor of the Weintraub Telecomm, LLC team. Responsible for accurate and timely reporting of production progress and inventory usage. The Wireman will be familiar with structured cabling standards and be able to incorporate them into customer installations. Ensures that installations comply with industry, manufacturer and company standards. Will have working knowledge of TIA/EIA 568A/B wiring standards and assembly for: 66 blocks, 110 blocks, RJ11, RJ45 jacks, Coaxial and fiber-optic wiring as well as a knowledge of color code when punching down voice or data lines as required.
Major Responsibilities / Activities
- Reports for daily scheduling for production on-site
- Reads blueprints and translates them into installations
- Works with Project Manager and Technicians to configure wiring bundles as required.
- Follows Layout of cabling routes device location
- Terminates all cable assembly to proper standards
- Installs and devices and panel wiring
- Performs testing of cabling and wiring to ensure that it is 100% complete, that all outlets, fiber connectors, etc., have proper termination
- Completes associated paperwork in a timely, efficient manner per company requirements
- Responsible for compliance to proper quality assurance
- Daily communication with Supervisor to resolve problems and discuss job status
- Manages and accounts for material usage and equipment on site
- Works in a team environment
Minimum Requirements
- High School graduate, military training, associate degree a plus
- Valid driver’s license
- Must be able to pass a drug test
- Must obey all traffic laws
- Must be able to use your own means of transportation to arrive at the required jobsite
- 1-3 years of experience in cabling installations
- Must be capable of using hand tools such as cable strippers, soldering irons, cable connector crimpers and other common items. Knowledge of how to use a multimeter, wire map, CAT 3/5/5e/6 test equipment, TDR, OTDR, audio test equipment, video waveform & vector scopes and audio/video signal analyzers is a plus
- Must be capable of working in confined areas and access areas on hands and knees for occasional and sometimes extended periods of time in order to complete an installation
- Must be able to work overtime as needed, as well as irregular hours and days including weekends and official holidays
- Wireman must be capable of working over 20 feet from ground level with company provided extension ladder for occasional and sometimes extended periods of time in order to complete an installation
- Must be able to carry various tools and equipment weighting up to 50 lbs during the work day
- Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written
- Wireman must be extremely customer focused and must maintain a professional demeanor
- Willingness to attain industry and vendor certifications as required by Weintraub Telecomm, LLC
- Wireless access installation experience a plus
- Knowledge of cabling standards a plus
Training will be provided in order to properly prepare qualified candidates for the minimum and company-desired standards of wiring assembly performance.
